Instructions

1

Chop walnuts finely and combine with sugar and cinnamon in a bowl.

2

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Butter a 9x13 inch baking pan.

3

Layer 7-8 sheets of filo at the base, buttering each layer. Let the edges hang over the pan.

4

Spread a portion of walnut mixture evenly over the filo.

5

Add 2 more layers of buttered filo, followed by another layer of nuts. Repeat, ending with filo layers.

6

Fold over the edges of filo, adding at least 2 more buttered layers on top.

7

Chill the assembled baklava in the freezer for about 1 hour.

8

Slice baklava into squares or triangles and place a clove into each piece.

9

Bake for 1 hour or until golden and crisp.

10

While baking, make the syrup by boiling sugar, water, honey, corn syrup, lemon juice, and half the orange peel for 20-25 minutes.

11

Remove the orange peel and let the syrup cool.

12

Pour cooled syrup over the hot baklava and let it absorb, resting for at least 30 minutes.

13

Serve in muffin cups and enjoy.
